Impaired and aggressive driving is a growing problem in Louisiana

Traffic accidents can have a devastating impact on those involved. In a split second, drivers may experience traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or even death.

Sadly, recent statistics show an increase in fatal traffic accidents on Louisiana roads. These same statistics indicate that many traffic accidents arise from two entirely preventable causes: impaired and aggressive driving.

Increase in traffic deaths

Between 2020 and 2021, fatal accidents on Louisiana interstates increased by 49%, while pedestrian fatalities on state roadways increased 27%. Meanwhile, traffic accidents resulting in injury increased by 17%. In total, 972 people died in vehicle accidents on Louisiana roads.

Each fatality represents the loss of a human life and emotional distress for family members. For those injured in traffic accidents, a lengthy recovery period could follow in which the injured party cannot work or fully live their life.

Causes of motor vehicle accidents

Statistics indicate that impaired and aggressive driving causes many fatal accidents. Both impaired and reckless driving are crimes in Louisiana, and law enforcement is working to detect and prevent dangerous driving. Unfortunately, the dangers of impaired and aggressive driving will likely persist into the future.

After a motor vehicle accident

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, you may be entitled to recover damages. Working with automobile insurers or pursuing a lawsuit can be a complicated process. An injured person should consult with a knowledgeable attorney, who can help with legal recovery while you focus on what is most important: physical and emotional recovery from your injuries.
